Fed ex invoice

Hi all - can’t get hold of eBay at the moment the chat function is not working. I purchased a headlight for my bmw which was shipped from Italy to the uk. Postage included and no mention of import fees. I received a fed ex invoice shortly after which eBay told me to ignore as they seemed to think it was a receipt not an invoice. I have had a further demand today for £57 to fed ex. Has anyone experienced this?

If eBay told you to ignore they were very wrong. It’s import duty and vat etc which fedex pay border control on hmrc’s behalf. All couriers do this but fedex are one of the few who deliver first without payment and then send invoice. You need to pay this fee to fedex.

As a buyer you have imported the item and need to pay relevant duties. Also as the buyer it is your responsibility to be aware that this may happen on certain value items.

Import fees are nothing to do with eBay or the seller, if you're buying an item from outside the UK then you're the importer.

eBay have got that wrong, that's a legit invoice if you purchased an item from Italy. FedEx pay the import fees on your behalf and then invoice you for the fee and for their admin fee.
