Faulty phone
Summary: mo-mo92 is seeking help after purchasing a phone that soon exhibited camera issues and then completely malfunctioned. The seller initially suggested a software update but stopped responding when the problem worsened. mo-mo92 spent £165 and is frustrated, considering contacting eBay without success. red_magpie advises that eBay's 30-day money-back guarantee no longer applies and suggests contacting the payment provider for assistance, as warranties from eBay sellers can often be unreliable.
Hi i am trying to find some help
I purchased a phone on 30/5/26, it said it comes with a warranty but I was never sent any information about this.
I received the phone and soon after on the 25/7/26, I sent this message to the seller:
“Hi,This phone since I've had it, keeps saying "warning camera failed" when I open the camera, it takes me several attempts to successfully use the camera, I've tried clearing the cache and app date on camera settings but no help. Please advise. Thank you”
The seller responded :
“hi there, is all of the software up to date, if it does work it sounds more like a software issue?“
The issue persisted.
Then on the 15/08/26, the phone just malfunctioned, I sent this message to the seller (and they have to this day not responded)
“ Hi, the phone randomly turned off today (although it had charge)
For a good hour or so, it kept showing the Samsung turning on screen on and on again, but not actually turning on.
I also tried pressing the down button and power button together but to no avail.
After that, it is completely off, won’t turn on at all, even after putting it on charge. Please advise”
So no response
I spent £165 on this phone and I am pretty annoyed, have tried to find a way to contact eBay and not sure if there’s anything I can do, this is a lot of money and isn’t just mere pounds and pennies.
Thank you

Mentor1 week agoeBay will not help as it's far too late to use their 30 day money back guarantee.
Your payment provider e.g credit or debit card may still be able to help. You can call them to ask.
Otherwise it's between you and the seller, or whoever provided the warranty. I'm afraid that warranties are often meaningless for items bought on eBay. Many eBay sellers don't want to know about after-sales problems, and even manufacturers' warranties are liable to be invalid for items bought here.
If you need advice on your statutory consumer rights there is plenty of guidance online, or you can asl citizens advice.
