Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedAre you sure that your seller actually used the term "solid" gold?
If it was just described as gold you may have difficulty in winning a claim because it was hollow gold, which is still gold and has to be hallmarked if over 1 gram. Apart from any other description, the difference should normally be evident from the price.
Unfortunately you have left it too late for any help from eBay or your payment provider. You could try using the GOV.UK Online Civil Money Claims service, but it would be wise to take advice from a solicitor or Citizens Advice first.
I presume you still have a copy of the original listing and description? If so, be sure to save a copy and print it. This will also show whether the seller is a business or a private seller, and is registered in the UK. This, together with the price of the item, will help to show whether it's worthwhile - or even possible - to attempt a legal remedy.

Mentor3 weeks agoWow, that's worth looking at pursuing legally. Is your seller a UK registered business seller (that's the million dollar question)?

Mentor3 weeks agoIf it's still within 30 days of the delivery date open a return using the reason "Item didn't match description" via the dropdown menu arrow for the item on your purchase history page. If necessary escalate it after 3 complete working days.
If it's more than 30 days it's too late to do anything via ebay but if it's still within 120 days of payment contact your payment provider and ask about a refund or chargeback.
After 120 days you're unlikely to get your money back unless you want to try money claim online. But if it's a UK business seller you can report them to Trading Standards.

Mentor3 weeks agoHow long ago did you buy it?
You have 30 days to return an item that's not as described via eBay, same for PayPal.
If you paid with a debit/credit card or ApplePay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback.
