Faulty items
Summary: rodba_87 purchased two batteries which they suspect are counterfeit, as one became warm and failed to charge properly. Despite reaching out to the seller and raising the issue with eBay, they were told the case was closed due to the expiration of the return period. papso22 and john1297576 suggested trying to resolve the issue through the payment provider. rodba_87 acknowledged the advice but expressed frustration over eBay's customer service and concerns about consumer rights and warranties.
Hi Folks
I have bought 2 x Makita 18v batteries for home use, I have used the 1st one once, went to recharge it and it will not recharge and get very warm whilst charging, I do believe that they are Conterfeits even though stating from the seller that they are Originals.....
I have raise this with the Seller several times but will not message me back.
Hence, Ive now raised with Ebay and they have informed me that as it out of the Returns period it's Case Closed......But surely something can be done if the item is Faulty or Counterfeit????
Would appreciate any help as that Ebay platform only let's you speak to AI instead of a normal person helping????

MentorJul 21, 2026 at 7:31 AMYou should have immediately opened a case with ebay, you only get 30 days so waste time when seller is just hoping you get out of time. Try your payment provider, but if Paypal they also only allow 30 days.

As far as I can see Ebay aren't interested at all and don't to know and where does the warranty come in or my Consumer rights???
But, will go with your suggestion via the Payment Provider, Gentleman 👍

Possibly, but not through eBay. When you accepted the user agreement, you accepted eBay's warning to buyers in section 2 that they do not guarantee the quality of items sold here, that they will be truthfully described, safe or even legal! You also accepted that liability rests with the seller, other than eBay's own money back guarantee, which only lasts for 30 days. After that they will not be interested.
In reality, the next step to take is to check whether your payment provider can help. Failing that, you could try to enforce any consumer rights you may have against the seller - assuming that they are registered in the UK. These are the risks of buying on eBay, but you can't say that eBay didn't warn you.
