ebay won't let you cancel the order in the first 2 mins
I wanted to share my recent experience to see if others have faced the same issue.
I placed an order on eBay and immediately realised I needed to cancel it. However, when I tried to cancel right after payment, I received a message saying it was “too early to cancel this order.” I had to wait nearly two minutes before the system allowed me to submit a cancellation request.
After I finally submitted the request, I received an email about five minutes later saying the seller had already dispatched the item and my cancellation was declined.
From a buyer’s perspective, this process feels unfair. If a customer places an order by mistake, there should be a short grace period to cancel immediately. Instead, the system blocks cancellation at first, and by the time it allows you to request it, the order may already be marked as dispatched.
I understand that sellers want to process orders quickly, but the current system does not seem to give buyers a realistic opportunity to correct mistakes.

Mentor5 months agoIt is the seller (not ebay) that has to agree to cancel.
Business sellers should agree to cancel, but not all will.
Do not refuse parcel, you can return it for refund, check sellers listing for details.
Or sell it yourself.

eBay's guidance is misleading. It is headed "How buyers can cancel an order" when in fact eBay doesn't alllow buyers to cancel an order! They can only ask the seller, who doesn't have to agree.
The user agreement explains that in most categories when you agree to purchase an item on eBay this is considered to be binding. We accepted this in the user agreement and it wouldn't be binding if either party was able unilaterally to cancel it.
In fact, when buying online from UK business sellers buyers usually do have a legal right to cancel. But eBay is not a law enforcing authority. It can only enforce the terms we have agreed to accept in the user agreement, which and are separate from and often very different to the law.
