eBay support is absolutely hopeless
Summary: greenelectron expresses frustration over their eBay listing being placed on hold for supposedly offering to sell outside the platform, despite following policies. They encounter repeated errors when attempting to contact eBay support. papso22 explains that such issues often result from automated systems misidentifying links or numbers. greenelectron responds with further dissatisfaction over eBay's service.
I have a listing that has been put on hold because eBay's system says I am offering to sell the item outside of eBay.
I have checked the policy and there is nothing in my listing that does this. I am trying to get the listing live, not sell it somewhere else.
Fine — I thought, let's contact an eBay agent and find out what the problem is.
But apparently this is too difficult.
The eBay help system tells me to “contact an agent”. Great. I click Contact an agent.
And then I get:“Something went wrong. Please try again later.”
So I try again.
Same
And again.
Same thing!
At this point I am not sure what is more broken my listing or eBay's support system.
It would be quite useful if eBay's automated system could actually tell me what part of my listing violates the policy, instead of putting the listing on hold based on some mysterious automated detection.
And it would be even more useful if the button saying “Contact an agent” actually contacted an agent.
I don't think this is too much to ask.
Can anyone from eBay actually explain what is wrong with my listing and get it live again?
Shocking.

Mentor1 week agoNo-one from ebay will come on here and do that.
The 'offering to sell outside ebay' message covers a range of 'discretions' picked up by a bot. The most common is putting a link to another website in the listing, followed by the bot identifying numbers e.g part numbers as a phone number.
