Problem started when i tried to buy some razor blade and was ask to enter my credit card details (i do not have a credit card only a debit card). Now trying to buy some blade for my plunge saw and I cannot do this either.
Why on earth is the only way to prove you are 18 is to have a credit card. I work in the retail industry and there is many way to prove someone is 18, none of them is to show up a credit card. If you go to the supermarket a credit card is not even a valid proof of age...
I'm really annoyed by the stupidity of this system.

·3 months agoYou can always ask somebody else to pay with their credit card and reimburse them.
To be honest, I don't mind having to use a credit card to prove my age online.
A different site asked for photo ID. (I was buying craft scissors.)
I had to upload both sides of my driving licence.
Then they had my full name, home address, date of birth, signature and photo.
That's a lot of information to hand over to a random company!

Mentor3 months agoeBay accepts only two methods of verifying your age.
One is by providing credit card details for verification. The card will not be saved or charged, unless you also choose to use it to pay. The other is by using a third-party partner of eBay called VerifyMyAge (details online).
eBay has obviously decided not to accept verification by methods which would involve the production, inspection and return of documents before buying.
Don't be too quick to dismiss the ide of getting a credit card. This provides buyers with an extra layer of buyer protection that lasts about four times longer than eBay's own 30 day money back guarantee. It's especially worthwhile for purchases over £100 when it provides the heavyweight protection of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, which you don't get with other forms of payment on eBay.
I can understand why some buyers worry about being drawn into debt through use of credit card. But there are prepaid cards available that limit the amount that can be spent to whatever sum the buyer has chosen to load on the card.

Ebay decided credit card is quickest way to do it..
It would take too long to check passport or driving licence.
