eBay Private seller using my phone number in listing!
Hi, a seller on eBay has again started listing my mobile phone number on their listings. This happened a while back and after a few messages they finally corrected the number (it's one digit out). I have messaged them again as started to get more phone calls from people asking me about things.
I can't find any way to actually contact eBay about this. Any ideas what I can do? They've also made the same error on their actual website. The user sometimes responds and fixes the error only to then list the number on subsequent auctions. Makes no sense, they are losing sales as I am gradually getting to the point where I am not forwarding people to the correct number (that they shouldn't have listed anyway, correct or not).
Any help?

Mentor9 months agoThanks got it.
That's a business seller masquerading as a private seller and breaking eBay policy big time by having a phone number in their listing.
I'll report this to eBay and see if it helps.
I'd probably tell any caller that rings that I'm no longer trading, and that's not you on eBay then hang up.

OP8 months agoStill not been removed I'm afraid. Maybe because it was the weekend? I'll give it a few more days before making another report. In the meantime they've lost out on a few potential sales so that's good.

Mentor9 months agoYour best bet it to perist in your efforts to report this to eBay.
Regardless of the wrong number issue, private sellers are not allowed to display a phone number in listings. This is to prevent sellers from selling items privately off-eBay, which leaves their buyers with no buyer protection and enables the seller to evade payment of any eBay fees.
This is an explicit breach of eBay's rules so if you contact eBay they should require the seller to stop displaying any phone number. (It will be irrelevant to eBay that they are giving your number by mistake.)
You can also try reporting the sellers behavior here, as encouraging buyers to make purchases outside of eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/resolving-issues-sellers/report-issue-seller?id=4022&st=12&pos=1&query=Report%20an%20issue%20with%20a%20seller&intent=report%20issue%20withseller
eBay is so robotic that it's best to stress that their own rules are being broken - especially their prohibition of provding personal contact information until a sale has been made, which eBay treats very seriously.

Mentor9 months agoWhere is it being displayed in the listing?
Is this a car seller using Classified Ad format which displays a phone number?
Quite frankly, I wouldn't redirect any calls.

OP9 months agoIt's listed directly under "Item description from seller" - If you have any questions please call (then my number). The text of the listing is then below. It's not a car listing.
