EBay Is Breaching My Personal Security
I am horrified to see that eBay is in serious breach of its security. I noticed recently that someone’s telephone number was shown with their details which I thought was strange. Yesterday I received an item that I had purchased. The invoice/packing slip on the front of the parcel included my full telephone number and my full personal eBay member’s details. It was folded in such a way that all this information was evident for anyone to see. This is not the seller’s fault. I went on to my account details to remove my telephone number and unbelievably, only a few numbers are shown, the rest are ‘x’! So on my account, security is recognised and then displayed publicly. I called the helpline, very apologetic that I was so incensed and knowing that it was not a matter to be dealt with at helpline level. I was promise an email but have received nothing so far. This is a matter for the Ombudsman, Martin Lewis etc. I am really upset about this and hope this post prompts immediate action.

·8 months agoAs a seller, when other members buy from you, their phone number is included with their personal details.
As a buyer, if you have a contact number in your personal details on Ebay, that number is given to the seller as part of your contact details. Sellers can choose not to make their phone number generally available to buyers, but buyers don't have any choice. You can, as you have done, delete your number from your personal details. This obviously means you would not be able to get a callback from Ebay should you need to contact Customer Services.
The details are here:
