EBay in favour of buyer!
Summary: dollryan13 shared their experience of selling an item that was later claimed to be damaged by the buyer, who requested a refund. Despite not providing proof of damage, the buyer was able to keep both the item and receive a refund, leaving dollryan13 at a loss. *vyolla* explained that eBay's policy requires sellers to accept returns and facilitate item return processes. tobiasd4 pointed out the timing issue, mentioning that the case should have been handled within eBay’s 30-day Money Back Guarantee period. dollryan13 expressed frustration over the lack of evidence and response from the buyer.
I sold an item, it was collected from my house by the buyer who was very pleased with it, he dismantled most of it to get it out my front door, then placed in his car. Said he was gonna use it for son’s party. 10 days later he messages me to say there’s a crack in it and he wants his money back. I asked to send pictures which he couldn’t, I messaged him twice to return it which he ignored. He has now got to keep it, had a full refund and I’m out of pocket by £150 and the item ! I was told by EBay to message buyer to return but they are now saying I should have given the buyer a return label? EBay have had no evidence to suggest there was ever any problem with the item, how can that be right ?

Mentor3 weeks agoAs you sold item 2 months ago, too late to sort any issue.
Buyers have 30 days for ebay MBG, so you should have sorted when they opened case.

OP3 weeks agoI challenged it as soon as the case was opened, it’s been ongoing since then and sadly the outcome has been in favour of the buyer who gets to keep the brand new item and his money too!

Mentor3 weeks agoIt's not possible to challenge an eBay return until you get your item back, sadly that's what went wrong there.

OP3 weeks agoI’ve now had an email to say I’ve been credited back the money as a good will gesture but I can’t see the credit on my account?

Mentor3 weeks agoEven with collection items buyers are protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee and, if they open a return for an item that they've decided is damaged or not as described the seller must accept it and make arrangements to get their item back, or eBay will simply force the refund.
To be honest, there isn't much you can do at this stage. You're outside of eBay now so any arrangement for the items return will have to be made outside of eBay, which may be a problem if the buyer isn't compliant.
