ebay have inactive email address as my contact details

within my contact details , ebay has an old hotmail account , which i updated to my gmail account a couple of years ago . when logging on ebay.co.uk, it asked if my contact details are correct , when i attempt to edit my email details to my gmail email i previously supplied , it states " this email is in use on another account" and i'm thinking " yeah, by me"... so i contact " customer service" and a AI Bot is attempting to drive me insane by repeating how i need to " remove the other account that is using the email address" , i keep shouting back , that only have had one account for 20 years ! can anyone help please ?
