eBay closed my £1,500 Item Not Received case – seller has both the item and my money. What can I do?
Summary: nayana02 purchased a laptop for £1,500, but due to a delivery issue, it was returned to the seller. Despite the seller's initial agreement to resend it, they have stopped responding, and eBay closed the Item Not Received case in the seller's favor. nayana02 has tried contacting eBay but has been advised to deal directly with the seller, leaving them without the item or a refund. papso22 suggests pursuing alternatives beyond eBay.
I bought a new laptop for around £1,500 from a seller with very low feedback. The seller promised to ship next day as I needed it before going on holiday.
Unfortunately, Royal Mail Special Delivery failed to deliver the next working day, so I missed it before flying out. Despite my attempts to arrange redelivery to a neighbour or collection by a friend, the parcel was eventually returned to the seller. Tracking confirms “Returned to Sender” and “Delivered to sender”, with photographic evidence of the parcel at the seller’s address.
The seller agreed to resend it once I returned. However, since receiving the returned parcel, he has stopped responding to my messages and has not refunded me.
I've had no luck with numerous emails/chats with eBay, who closed my INR case in the seller's favour because there was an attempted delivery within the estimated delivery period. I also had an hour-long chat with an eBay manager, who acknowledged that the parcel was returned to the seller but said there was no further escalation available under their T&Cs and kept telling me to contact the seller.
So the seller now has the £1,500 item and the payment, while I'm left with nothing.
Has anyone had a similar situation? How did you eventually get your money or item back? Any success with an eBay further escalations, PayPal, chargeback, Citizens Advice, police or legal action?
Thanks.

Mentor1 month agoTry PayPal first. If that fails, try a chargeback.

Mentor1 month agoThere is no point in escalating with ebay, you need to try one of the other options you mention in your post.
