Ebay Buying Process Now Flawed?
I've been using Ebay since 2004 both as seller and buyer and I've never had any problems bidding on items until now. The last two items I've bid on, the first a couple of weeks ago and one tonight my bid was accepted but someone came in at the very end and won the item with a bid which was LESS than my maximum bid!? That has never happened in the past, I could understand it if the winning bidders amount was higher than my maximum but it wasn't i.e I bid on an item tonight with a maximum of £9.30 with about 10-15 secs left and received the Ebay response I was the high bidder but then someone else bid seconds later and won the item with a winning bid of £9.17! How does that work surely their winning bid would have to be more than £9.30?

OP9 months agoThat's what I always thought till now. I put a maximum bid in of £9.30 when the current winning bid was £6.45 and briefly got a message that I was the high bidder but seconds later the item went off with a winning bid of £9.14. The bidding history does not reflect my maximum bid only the amount of £8.64 which was the amount which outbid the previous high bidder. This never used to be how it worked, if the winning bidder bid £9.14 then in the past this would have pushed my bid up further towards the £9.30 I had already bid. If you now have to also factor in the buyer protection fee and add that to your bid before bidding then that is news to me, as I've never had to do that in the past and have never received a notification from Ebay that is now required. The item number was 406462405622

Mentor9 months agoThe bid history shows bids without the buyer protection fee. You need to make sure both your bid and the winning bid include the fee when comparing them.

OP9 months agomissed the memo! Personally I think it's a cheek Ebay expects the buyers to
fund this, buyer protection used to be a given in the old days covered I
guess by the sellers fees.
