Ebay asking me for my bank account customer number why???
Today i decided to open a seller account to make some cash on my old unwanted items via Ebay platfom, found it weird to have to give my bank numbers twice for both buyer and selling as it is the same? bank account. Then ebay wanted me to connect to my bank and input various information i stopped after being asked for my bank account customer number and phoned my bank and had a chat they said it is very strange to be asked for the customer number as this would give access to information on all accounts held at the bank not just the account for receiving funds via Ebay?? Why are Ebay wanting this and why did it say on the connection that info will be shared around their other meaningful corporate contacts. It makes me think that they want to be able to sell data to highest bidder on account data like regular outgoings and balances and maybe what you buy and how often anyway the call with my bank ended and the lady said she would feel very troubled to give the customer number as it is more sensitive than the acc & sort numbers and certainly not a thing to be shared among other corporations that i am not having a relationship with. Please would love too know your views or sentiment on this sort of thing 🙂 please do not bother replying if your of the mind that there is nothing to hide if you have nothing to hide that never worked out too well for some people if your bright enough to have read your history now did it 🙂Â

·10 months agoAre you certain that it was Ebay asking for that number and not your bank?
As part of the verification process, Ebay may get you to log into your bank account and send you to their log in page. With Lloyds, who I bank with, if I log on online rather than using the app on my phone, I have to enter my customer number.
All the details are hereÂ

Â
but this is the relevant part. I think you might find that it was your bank asking for that information and not Ebay.
Â
Logging into your bank
When verifying your account, if your bank is available in the Add a bank account list, you can select it and log in directly with your bank credentials. This is the fastest way to verify your bank account.

Mentor10 months agoI have never heard of ebay asking for a 'customer account number' in addition to needing account number and sort code.
Â
I have also never seen anything that indicated they would share my bank details with anyone as part of signing up for managed payments. Most odd.

Mentor10 months agoA selling account is totally different from a buying account, and many members wish to keep them separate even further by using another bank account to receive payouts from sales. Hence eBay wish you to register the bank account you wish to use for their Managed Payments, even if it's the same one, it still has to be registered, as it's going to be used for a different purpose.Â
Â
You can appreciate one to be used for receiving money from sales, has to be checked as the correct one you wish to use.

You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account and have this account verified. The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive,  and confirm to eBay.
Once this is completed, Â you will be able to list items for sale, Â and receive payouts from those sales.
This will show you how to register for eBay's Managed Payments.

If there is an issue with the registration contact eBay Customer Services, Â who have full access to your account, Â and can see where the issue lies and explain the steps you now need to take.
