E-Bay says that the customer has sent a return label, but they've not.
Summary: andy_ash01 purchased a USB display adaptor for their Windows PC, but installing the driver resulted in a "severe trojan threat" warning from Windows. After unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue, their computer became unusable, necessitating a complete reinstall. They attempted to return the item but faced issues with receiving a return label from the seller on eBay and encountered difficulties with eBay's customer service, which directed them to unhelpful AI responses. **peaseblossom** suggested waiting three business days to escalate, but andy_ash01 still experienced challenges with the process. Frustrated with the situation, andy_ash01 expressed their disappointment with eBay's customer service and decided against making future purchases on the platform.
I bought a USB display adaptor for a Windows PC. The driver is included inside the adaptor. The USB connection is supposed to give USB read only disk and video functionality. When I tried to install it, Windows said that the driver file is a "severe trojan threat". The system would not let me install the driver (it actually deleted and quarantined the driver file automatically), so the device was useless. Stupidly I tried to find an independent driver to make it work, and now I have degraded my computer to the point where I'm going to have to reinstall the whole thing. I'm actually struggling to process the return because my computer is dead but I do have other ways to access the internet. The last part is down to me, but this is product is surely defective, and potentially hazardous to others.
I started a return, and e-bay said that the seller had sent a return label, which they've not. They simply repeated their address and now have told me I need to buy my own stamps. As far as I could tell e-bay was saying that I paid for buyer protection, but they're also directing me into AI hell, which gives nothing, but an instruction to return the item. It's not about the money. The seller is selling a very painful hazard. That shouldn't be.
I'm not dishonest so, I'm not going to say I've returned it when I've not. On consideration, I'd rather throw it away and give negative feedback, if I can't get my money back on e-bay.
Ebay say I can ask them to step in, but I don't see how.
Has the ebay buyer garantee now gone? Is there a way to resolve this? What's the best way forward?

OP1 month agoSo here I am, I'm considering buying a new PC.
I would have bought it through e-bay, but I am determined not give that business to e-bay now.
I don't know what's going on with ebay, but it's too far gone.
It's like the wild west. Pot luck with your money.
Maybe you get shafted, maybe you win big.
The small purchases matter because people will risk small money to get the confidence to spend the big money.
Mine is gone, because ebay isn't sensitive enough to distinguish "buyer changed his mind" from "buyer got ripped off".

Mentor1 month agoYou will able to escalate 3 complete working days after you started it. If the seller is outside the UK ebay often cannot enforce a paid-for return label.
Ignore the locked notice. That seems to pop up for no apparent reason

OP1 month agoThank you for responding, but it's more than three days, and I just end up in AI hell.
The "escalate" mechanism which I trusted to be there has become rather elusive.
The first message I received when I started the return said I would receive a return label by the 9th of September.
It's the 10th today, and the seller is telling me I have to buy stamps.

Mentor1 month agoGive it a bit longer then contact ebay. Try to speak to someone. After clicking on help select subject then type "speak to agent". Keep repeating. Good luck.

OP1 month agoAlso, why is my post locked? It says discussion interactions are paused.
I feel like I've done something wrong.
This is no way to treat customers.
