Does Ebay do anything to prevent fraudulent sellers???????
Summary: roses193 expressed frustration over a purchase on an online marketplace where the seller failed to dispatch an item and provided a possibly false tracking number. The item was refunded after 10 days, but roses193 preferred to receive the item rather than the refund. Other participants clarified that while the experience was negative, it might not meet the legal definition of fraud. They also discussed the seller's poor reputation and suggested that their account might be at risk of closure due to consistent poor performance. Feedback was mentioned as a tool but could be contested by the seller.
I bid and won an item, the seller did not post the item and after my query the seller replied with a Royal Mail tracking number but never dispatched it. After I won the item I found that it was still on sale by another seller , interestingly this seller is also selling from Keighley, United Kingdom. After 10 days my money was refunded which is not what I want, i want the item not my money back. Clearly this is fraudulent, my money was kept for 10 days fraudulently either by Ebay or the seller. I have reported this to Ebay.
I read this seller's feedback and it seems that this person has done this before and has been reported but nothing happened to the seller

OP3 weeks agoIt seems that Ebay do nothing to stop sellers from practising this, if i bid and won something i am obliged to pay
Whereas seller can do this and get away with it. This seller has been reported to Ebay before and nothing happens.Currently the same item is being advertised on Ebay again

Mentor3 weeks agoSeller must already be on the way out, their record is terrible, and defect ratio must make below standard which will make it difficult to sell or improve his selling record.

Mentor3 weeks agoThat wouldn't be considered fraud, but that seller is playing a strange game. Their eBay account will likely be closed soon with that poor performance level.
The feedback you've left is great, except by naming a seller who may or may not be associated with this one you've left the gate wide open for the seller to request its removal.

Mentor3 weeks agoThat's not fraud. You have not lost out financially.
Depending on the reason the seller used to cancel they should have got a defect.

OP3 weeks agoFraudulent means acting with intent to trick or deceive someone, usually to get money or an advantage illegally

Mentor3 weeks agoTo put that in context though, it's the last word "illegally' that you need to consider. There's nothing illegal there, so it couldn't be considered a fraudulent act under current UK law.
