Do I have to accept a 10% refund from a seller if the item wasn't as described?
Hi, I bought a case for a friend's DJ-Controller, it was for her birthday... I gave her a choice of cases, and she chose the cheaper option, so I bought it, not noticing it was coming from China.
Anyway after a week or so the case arrived on the 11th of March, I thought it looked small at the time, I had to wait then for her birthday to arrive and when that time came last Saturday that's the moment I noticed the case did not fit the controller, the listing said it would fit the controller I'd bought my friend, I had to no time to check as the DJ-controller in question was also a present from me.
I asked the seller for a refund, he said that, because he makes hardly any money on them, he'll give me 10%, sending the £22 case back to China would be more than the value of the case. The seller is now offering 20% after I refused his offer and asked for a refund. I'm happy to return it if they supply a pre-postage label. Please advise.

OP4 months agoI've submitted a return request on the item, saying: "I am requesting a full refund. I am happy to return the item if the seller provides a prepaid return label, but I cannot pay international return shipping for an item that was incorrectly listed."

Mentor4 months agoThe seller is responsible for the return shipping but won't provide a label. In which case you will need to escalate to ebay when the button appears.
You have done the right thing.

computerv_75 may also find it helpful to read the advice on this subject below, given to another buyer by an eBay rep last year (I think it was Kat or Kate, they're easily confused!). If you try folloowing this advice, please let us know the outcome!:
For a not as described case the seller must provide a return label that matches the item location given at the time the purchase was made. So if the item is meant to be in the UK the return address should be UK.
Now if a seller is based outside of the UK, lets use China as the example, and the item is sent from China it is still the sellers' responsibility to provide means of return to the buyer if it's a not as described case. This should be a label or payment for the buyer to send the item back. If the seller does not provide means of return within the seller make it right period the buyer can reach out to our teams and we escalate the case. What normally would happen here is that the agent will send the seller a warning that they have 5 days to provide means of return or we will close the case in the buyer's favour.
A seller can buy an international label (direct through a courier) and provide it to the buyer or the monetary value to send the item back if the buyer is willing to physically go buy the label.
