Do I have the right to request the buyer return the item?
Hi There,
I recently sold an old Sega master system in great condition, the buyer then mentioned one cable was damaged.
He asked for a 40% discount which I said was too much.
The next thing I know eBay have somehow refunded the entire amount and he gets to keep my item.
How it that fair?
Do I at least have the right to request the buyer return my item if they have received the refund?

Mentor7 months agoYou are now stuck, as while you can ask buyer to return, you would have to send him the postage, which in itself is a problem as there is no means to do this through ebay, and once sent there is no guarantee that buyer will not just keep the money and not return item.
You failed to read what happens if you do not resolve or make correct response to a case once opened.

Mentor7 months agoThere must be part of the story missing, as eBay doesn't just spontaneously refund buyers.
It sounds as though your buyer opened a case under eBay's money back guarantee and selected the option for a partial refund, which you declined. What you should then have done was to agree a full refund on return, and to send the buyer a prepaid return label.
If the case closed without you having resolved the problem eBay will have enforced a refund without the item having to be returned. You gave eBay this power in the user agreement, and agreed to accept their decisions.
If this is what happenned you can certainly still ask the buyer to return the item, and offer to send them the cost of postage, but eBay's decision was that they were not required to return the item, so they don't have to.
