Discovered an item I bought is a counterfeit
Summary: djtrillian discovered that a micro SD card they purchased may be counterfeit, based on its appearance and research into similar fakes. Although the card was inexpensive and the factory guarantee offers 5 years of coverage, the seller is unresponsive and unhelpful since the purchase is over 30 days old. They are seeking advice on whether they have any recourse or if they should just accept the loss.
Back in May I bought a name brand, good spec, micro SD card. It arrived (late, but no biggie). I installed it and it appeared to be working OK. It has now failed and is completely dead and unreadable. As it wasn't expensive, I figured probably just bad luck and not worth trying to get the factory guarantee, which is something like 5 years.
But after a bit of research it came to light that fakes are going around and I have seen multiple videos and articles detailing how to spot a counterfeit card. So, this card appears to be fake based on a key appearance feature.
As it is over the 30 days, I no longer have the basic return button for this purchase. I have contacted the seller but they basically don't care and are not offering any resolution.
So, do I have any recourse, or just cut my losses and move on?
