Discount given then withdrawn....

I bought an item in December then received an email saying if I bought a second item, the seller would give a discount of upto 50% on the second item. The second item was then discounted and I received a partial refund for the second item. I waited a good few weeks for the items to ship then realised they would not arrive at my old address before I moved out. I contacted the seller and asked them to ship to my new address which they said they couldn't do and they would have to refund the two items and I would have to re-purchase them both again to go to my new address. They listed both items at the original price and I bought them both again but this time I wasn't given the discount and no refund is forthcoming despite me emailing the seller several times. I was originally given a 30 dollar refund (around £23) which isn't the end of the world BUT I bought the second item because of the discount that was offered to me. Do I have any rights? The seller is clearly ignoring me. Thank you 🙂

OP5 months agoI sent copies of my purchases and a copy of the email that detailed the discount. The seller came back and apologised as they had overlooked the discount which was then applied. I have no issue with the seller otherwise and I still have them saved in my favourites

I think it was an unfortunate situation, seller did not have 2nd item and you moved house.
I'm afraid you will have to chalk it up to circumstances.
TBH. Leaving negative feedback for seller would be unfair.

OP5 months agoI think maybe I haven't explained it well enough. I bought both items at the end of December and received a discount on the second item as stated. The buyer took so long to post even though I kept asking when they would be posted) that I knew the two items wouldn't reach me in time and would go to my old address which is why I then asked for them to be posted to my new address. Seller said they couldn't do that but would refund both items (less my discount) and I would have to repurchase both items at full price which I did in the third week in January (both items came to £130 so not a cheap purchase for a set of miniature perfumes). I waited for the £23 discount but didn't get anything and I have sent several emails and they have not replied as obviously they have now decided to keep the full amount I paid. They could at least have replied and I think this is what is the most annoying - the fact they are totally ignoring me and this is why i think I would be justified in leaving negative feedback.... You have explained it very clearly, but you're overlooking that eBay's terms and conditions apply to all sales here. You can't make up your own.
As regards the price, what counts is the price for which the items were sold. Discount offers mean nothing unless they are confirmed in the sale price.
If an item didn't arrive by the latest estimated delivery date the seller was correct to refund you, and to explain that eBay doesn't allow the delivery address to be changed. This can only be done at checkout when buying the item.
Any feedback you leave is up to you, but if you leave a neg there's a good chance the seller could report it to be removed as feedback policy violation. The seller was correct about the deivery address, and any private agreement about a discount was between you and the seller. eBay doesn't allow negative feedback to be left for disputes over private agreements made outside of eBay.

OP5 months agoIt was resolved in the end. Ive not left negative feedback - I take negative feedback very seriously and have probably left it once in over 20 years that I have been on Ebay.

Message with different address, seller is correct to refuse to do it.
Discount is between you and seller.
It's unfortunate you moved home recently, but nothing ebay will do to help.

Thank you for your reply. I fully understand about the address as a seller is not covered then if the parcel goes missing. But what if the seller actually messaged you after you bought the first item to say that if you bought a second item - you would be given a discount? Are there are rules around that? Is that not misleading a buyer and against Ebay rules?
The email read "Special Offer for You: As a token of our appreciation, you can get up to 50% off additional items if you place another order within the next 3 days. The discount varies by item, so please feel free to contact us if you see something else you like".... If there really is nothing I can do then ultimately I will leave negative feedback and this isn't something I take lightly. I think Ive only left negative feedback once or twice in the whole 20+ years I have used Ebay.......Kind regards, Coolblonde44
