Dealing with Unreasonable Buyers: Strategies and Experiences
Summary: musicabilia shared an experience where they sold an item and, despite shipping it promptly, received a message from the buyer claiming it hadn't arrived and requesting a refund. After exchanging messages, musicabilia issued a refund for peace of mind but is left concerned about being scammed. They blocked the buyer from future purchases, hoping to avoid negative feedback or an eBay strike, and questioned if they handled the situation correctly.
My present experience is that I sold an item on 19 August, put it the post box on 20 August (so it might not have been picked up by RM until 21 August) and this morning (25 August) I received an INR message saying it hadn't arrived and wanting an immediate refund. A few messages went on between us, my opinion being that the buyer hadn't given it enough time to arrive, and eventually for a quiet life I made the refund. I am therefore without money or the item! Was I foolish and maybe the 'buyer' is an experienced rip-off merchant. I have blocked him from future purchases from me. I assume he can't give me negative feedback and I hope I don't get a negative strike from eBay!
Should I have done something differently?

Mentor2 weeks agoYour buyer wouldn't be able to open an eBay item not received claim unless the latest estimated delivery date showing on their order had passed.
If you're a private seller using eBay's Simple Delivery then eBay would have refunded the buyer themselves had the item not arrived or gone astray.
Your buyer can leave negative feedback, but I can't see why they would.
