Dealing with a person abusing ebays returns policy.
Hi I bought a new PC motherboard that ended up having bent pins so did not work. So I sold the item as spares/repair with the information that i got from CCL computers that they wont exchange it because of bent pins:
I've tried to take pictures of the single bent pin, someone with skill to fix it might get a good mb. It trys to boot but just shows ram colour error when ive tried with cpu/ram but will not boot to bios.
Note this is being sold as spares/repair so there is >no return< for this. Buy it if you think can fix or need it for parts.
The buyer has attempted to fix the item and is now claiming that theres 3 pins missing on the mb and is trying to get a refund saying item as not descibed.
First the item was sold as broken, so how is this possible, second, shouldn't he have inspected the item if the three pins were missing he should have known that before attempting to repair. Ie he has now attempted to repair the item and because he couldn't he now trying to pass off the blame back to me. CCL computers never mentioned any missing pins. I have multiple emails with this.
The fact he said he attempted to fix it, how can he prove that there was missing pins? Shouldn't he not have attempted to touch/repair it before making his claim that item was not as descibed.
We are talking about an item that was already sold as broken. I have 261 tranactions on ebay, all 100% feedback, never had an issue on here I couldn't respove, but now I cant contact ebay to get someone to see that clearly because he couldn't repair the mb hes trying to get his money back, and id be left with the mb he could have broken more because he's attempted to "fix" it.
I feel this is so wrong, is there any way i can speak to someone at ebay or something to get a proper decision, not abuse of seller return policy. IE if he wanted to claim item was not as descibed, he should have done that BEFORE HE ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT.
Thank you.

Mentor11 months agoThe danger in not accepting a return and leaving it for either the buyer to ask eBay to step or you asking them to in order to be able to appeal, is that the buyer often ends up with the item and a refund in these kind of circumstances.

OP11 months agoThank you for the advice, this is so frustrating how can't get ebay to look at the obvious wrongness of this. I'll see if can appeal this.

Mentor11 months agoYou won't be able to appeal an eBay decision unless eBay make one (either you or the buyer ask eBay to step in), and to be honest I can't see you winning this.
I'd accept the return and then report the buyer for returning a damaged item. It won't get you your money back, but at least you can relist the item.

Mentor11 months agoYour buyer has broken a cardinal rule for returning an item for a refund, that is, he tried to fix it so it is being returned not in the same condition as sent out.
Have they opened a case for item not as described? Then, no point challenging it at this point, it's all automatic, no human contact.
Accept the case within 3 days and refund, or, within that time send a prepaid return label and only refund when the item is back with you, you have 48 hours to do so,.
Stick within those timelines and your selling performance is not affected.
Then, you appeal the decision for the refund, this explains how:

I won't admit appealing is easy and eBay usually do side with the buyer, but lead them to the message the buyer sent saying they tried to fix the item, and stress it's now being returned in a different condition to sent out, and this breaks MBG ( Money Back Guarantee ) rules.
