Custom Delivery - Postage Costs

I have an Australian buyer for an item eligible for Custom Delivery (collectable postage stamps, under £10, weight 75g (packed)). Royal Mail charge at the Poat Office, and on line, is £3.60 for International serviceStandard. Leaving aside allegations of money grabbing, can anyone explain why ebay wants £4.50 for a postage label for this item (the AI chatbot doesn't wanr to).
Had similar problem with something to Italy a while ago.
And whilst on the subject of selling abroad, who decided that I am responsible for paying buyers' import duties at time of posting?

Mentor3 weeks agoPass - always cheaper to send direct. Don’t forget you’ll have no tracking at £3.60 from the post office or Royal Mail. However the Aussie mail system is ok these days. Re import duties that doesn’t apply to Australia. That’s a European or USA thing. However stamps are exempt to the USA there is only a handful at this time in Europe where you have to pay duty. Most as long as you tell post office counters that it can be sent DDU. Think it’s only the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and Denmark which have go ddp.
