Coping with Temporary Restrictions: Tips and Experiences
Summary: has_5952 is a new eBay seller facing temporary account restrictions, which prevent most activities, including listing items. They initially listed a product as a private seller due to difficulties finding the business account option. After contacting eBay Customer Support, they remain unclear about the reasons for the restriction or how to resolve it, seeking advice on registration, account reinstatement, and necessary verifications. tressygirl suggests ensuring registration with eBay's Managed Payments and completing bank verification, while papso22 advises considering upgrading the account to a business account and contacting eBay for more details. Both responders clarify they are fellow users, not eBay representatives.
Hello,
I am a new seller on eBay and recently listed my first product. My account is now temporarily restricted from most activities, including listing.
My intention from the beginning has been to operate a legitimate business on eBay. When I created my account, I was unable to find an option to convert/register the account as a business account, so I initially listed my first product as a private seller.
I contacted eBay Customer Support to understand the restriction. During the call, I was asked about my name and the handling time of my listing, and I was told that my account would not be reinstated. However, I was not given a clear explanation of what caused the restriction or what specific steps I need to take to resolve it.
I am a new seller and I want to make sure that I follow eBay's policies correctly. I am not trying to bypass any requirements or restrictions. I am willing to provide any information, documentation, identity verification, or business details required by eBay.
Could someone please advise me on:
The specific reason my account was restricted.
Whether my account can be reviewed for reinstatement.
What steps I need to take to register and sell correctly as a business.
Whether I need to complete any additional verification or provide any documents.
I would really appreciate guidance from the appropriate eBay team so I can resolve this correctly and operate my business in compliance with eBay's policies.
Thank you.

I don't understand why you couldn't register as a business from the start, that might have prevented these problems, but the instructions on how to upgrade/convert are all on the website in Ebay's guidance.
A temporary restriction normally means they want you to provide some evidence of something, and they should have told you what that is. If they haven't, I suggest you upgrade first and then contact ebay customer service for more information.
The bad news is that your restriction may become permanent and that's the end of ebay for you.

OP2 weeks agoThanks for explaining.
I understand your point about registering as a business from the beginning. I initially created the account as a private seller because I was testing the platform and did not understand that I should register it as a business from the start. My intention is to operate legitimately through my UK limited company.
The restriction appeared after I listed my first item, and I have not been given a clear explanation of what specific information or evidence eBay requires from me. I also don't currently see an option that allows me to resolve the restriction myself.
I will look into converting/upgrading the account to a business account, but before making any changes, I want to make sure I don't make the situation worse.
If anyone has experienced this exact situation — a new private seller account being temporarily restricted immediately after the first listing — I'd appreciate knowing what eBay asked them to provide and how they resolved it.
Thanks for the advice.

Mentor2 weeks agoIt's very difficult for us to give any correct answer here, as being members like yourself, we are not privy to accessing your account or your eBay messages.
eBay Customer Services will not explain any restriction they usually just refer you to any eBay messages you've received.
Just ensure you have fully and correctly registered with eBay's Managed Payments, see here:
You need to provide eBay with details of a bank account and have this account verified. The usual method here, is for eBay to send 2 micro deposits into that nominated bank account for you to receive, and confirm to eBay.
Once this is completed, you will be able to list items for sale, and receive payouts from those sales.
This will show you how to register for eBay's Managed Payments.
