Controlling Postage cost of oversized items
Please could someone advise?
I have three items which are oversize and yes, ebay gave me the option to choose oversized, in fact it was recommended for two pairs of skis which are nearly 2 meters in length and a tennis racquet, which is 67cm and, the maximum length for Simple Delivery is 61cm. None of the items were oversize by weight. I guess the system checks the dimensions of items before allowing the oversize option?
I can see I can change the postage that ebay guesses at. For the skis it is only Parcel Force that would take them although when I looked at re-listing them ebay gave other me other carriers. My local sub-post office gave me a price just under £20 for Parcel Force. The Parcel Force website gave me about £48 as the cheapest. I am not sure why such a disparity in price but I set postage at £50. When I dispatched two wooden folding chairs I had to pay ebay to print the label but I am not sure if I recovered the fee. Apart from the Post Office printing the label there did not appear to be any other way of printing a label. Is that correct, or is there a way of printing labels for ‘Oversized’ items as for ‘Simple Dispatch’ without being charged a fee by ebay?
In the case of the tennis racquet ebay has given a postage but I do not know if that is correct. There are three different delivery options, assumedly for the customer to select from, which are all give as different prices? How do I set the postage with three different options at different prices as assessed by ebay? One of the options is Yodel, the cheapest, but the nearest store is 10miles away!! which I have no desire to drive. Can I determine which carrier or is the buyer allowed to choose? If the buyer chooses how can I set the postage price with different options?
If I end up out of pocket there is no point in trying to sell oversized items on ebay.

Mentor6 months agoThe oversize option should be used when either the dimensions or weight are exceeded for the standard simple delivery services.
A seller selects the carrier from the choices offered when listing, though eBay may override this if they feel an alternative carrier is a better choice.
Buyers cannot choose the carrier when buying, the only choice is standard or express delivery, if you look at one of your listings you can see the postage options as seen by buyers.
