Consequences of cancelling a sale
Summary: meganeko is concerned about cancelling a sale because eBay unexpectedly added Inpost as a delivery option. tommystrezures suggests checking account settings to disable Inpost for future sales and recommends using 'problem with buyer's address' as the cancellation reason to avoid penalties. meganeko clarifies that the nearest Inpost drop-off is 140 miles away, which is impractical.
I am about to cancel a sale because eBay unexpectedly added Inpost as a delivery option for Simple Delivery, something I only discovered when my most recent buyer selected Inpost as their delivery option.
So I am wondering - will I be penalised for this?
eBay support said I didn’t need to cancel the sale, but their "helpful" suggestion was that I post the item and issue the customer with a PayPal invoice for the postage, which seemed like a lot of trouble to go to for the sake of a few pounds especially considering that I have not had a PayPal account for years.

Mentor1 month ago2 things you need to check in your account settings your postage preferences and ensure inpost is 'turned off' for future sales.
Secondly what is the problem with inpost? - if you do decide to cancel use problem with buyers address, neither of you will receive a defect on your account. I would send the buyer a note too to say why you cant send inpost eg your local drop off point is 20 miles away etc.

OP1 month agoSorry, I should have mentioned that my closest Inpost drop-off point is 140 miles away.
