Concerns about message from potential buyer
Summary: jjb_5918 shared a concern about receiving a message with a QR code from a potential buyer on eBay, which asked for card details. tobiasd4, john1297576, and tommystrezures advised that this request is highly suspicious and likely a scam, emphasizing that eBay does not require card details for selling. jjb_5918 expressed frustration about the recurrence of such scams and questioned eBay's response to these issues.
I am new to selling on eBay and have been contacted by a potential buyer. They have sent me a message with a QR code. When I go into the code it's asking for card details, although I have already logged my bank details with eBay. Is this normal ?

Mentor1 month agoThis has scam written all over it. Do not comply with this spurious request. To sell on ebay you DO NOT need card details. Only bank details which you say you have logged properly. Ignore the message. Buyers do not send these sorts of messages only scammers do.
Payment must be via managed payments no other means is acceptable.

OP1 month agoThanks for the information. I've noticed that I'm not the only one that this has happened to. I wonder why eBay aren't doing anything about it ??

Mentor1 month ago · EditedNo it is not normal, giving card details would be inviting misuse of card, and potential loss of money. Almost certainly a con.
It says your account is restricted, IS I restricted ?
Genuine messages from ebay address you by name, I can see no name at all.

Mentor1 month agoLooks suspicious to me, ignore it.
If genuine, ebay will send a message through your account.

OP1 month agoThanks for the reply, they have since tried again. Will not be responding. I did report it through eBay and they came back with "they didn't find the content to be in violation of our policy" !!!
