Change email address in account
Summary: paul_on_e-bay asked how to change their eBay account email to one previously used for another account, but encountered an error saying the email is already in use. *vyolla* and tommystrezures advised that once an email has been connected to an eBay account, it cannot be reused, and suggested creating a new email. paul_on_e-bay felt this was a flaw in eBay’s system, but others explained it as a security measure. Despite this, paul_on_e-bay maintained that preventing the reuse of email addresses is excessive.
Hi, I am looking to change my email address for my eBay account to one that was used previously for another of my eBay accounts, however, the address was changed many years ago for this account. When I try and change the email address for my current account, I get a message saying that is already in use. I don't believe that this is the case as the address contains a word that was made up by me. Is it the case that when an email address has been used before, even though not currently being used, then it cannot be assigned to another eBay account? Thanks, Paul

Mentor1 week agoYou'll need a new email addy, you can't recycle one that's already been used.

OP1 week agoWould cancelling the original eBay account where the email address was used make any difference and allow me to re-use this email address?

Mentor1 week agoNo it wouldn't, you just need to set yourself up with a new email address.

Mentor1 week agoNo its not a flaw by eBay its always been that way. It takes two minutes to set up a new email address.
