Carriage of Dangerous Goods
Summary: johnnofast shared an experience of ordering a portable camping stove with butane gas canisters, which arrived without proper labeling or warnings about the hazardous contents. They reported the listing to an online marketplace, which stated it did not violate policies, and also alerted carriers about potential safety risks due to regulations against transporting such items. They inquired if others had experienced similar issues and the outcomes of any attempts to address them.
My wife recently ordered a portable camping stove which arrived together with 8 x 227g canisters of butane gas. The items were loose inside a cardboard box which had been cut down from a larger box and sellotaped together. There were no labels or warnings whatsoever on any of the outer packaging to indicate that there was anything hazardous inside. Has anyone else had any experience of this? I reported the listing (there are dozens exactly the same) as their own policy states that such canisters cannot be listed. Needless to say, they determined that 'the listing does not violate our policies'. I have also reported the issue to the carriers who are unknowingly placing their employees and the wider public at risk. There are clear regulations regarding the transporting of such canisters - Royal Mail and Evri both specifically prohibit their inclusion on their networks, so why doesn't eBay do anything about it? Some couriers regularly use air freight to move parcels around and the CAA regulations are very strict. Has anyone else tried to raise this as an issue and if so, what was the outcome?

Mentor2 weeks agoAI won't know how sellers post these items.
Although some carriers prohibit these items, senders often lie.
