I am just protecting myself. I’ve already been refused ebay protection on receiving an empty envelope that was sent tracked but €300 contents went missing in transit. Plus only today having to refund a buyer for an item not delivered. So I didn’t want to risk losing another £80. Especially when it’s a silver coin.
Well if you wish to get a defect on your account which could get you restricted then cancel sale. If you use the wrong reason you could be in trouble and if you use the correct reason that you are not honouring a sale you get a defect.
I am afraid from what you say, you just do not understand the money back guarantee. Receiving an empty envelope you should have opened a Not as described case, but I bet you opened a not received, but you received something.
Refunding a buyer for item not delivered. I assume you use Simple Delivery, then buyer should have opened a not received case AND EBAY MAKES THE REFUND, with no loss to you.
I am afraid that not understanding the rules just makes money for ebay.

Mentor1 week agoNo you are wrong to do it.
Buyer may have joined ebay to buy your item.
How would you feel as a new ebayer if no one let you buy,
You were a zero ebayer when you joined.
