Can the ai system really be that stupid?
Summary: bjay999 is experiencing issues collecting an item they purchased on eBay. The seller initially communicated but did not provide an address for collection, and has since stopped responding. Attempts to get help from eBay's system have been frustrating, as it offers no solutions for their situation. tressygirl suggests opening a case for 'item not received,' while **peaseblossom** advises using PayPal for a refund. *vyolla* provides information on timeframes for reporting issues to obtain a refund through various payment methods.
I purchased an item, for collection only, and was initially in communication with the seller.
He did at one point send me a photo of his front door (saying he would leave the item in the porch).
Unfortunately he didn’t give me the address!
He also messaged the following day to say he forgot to put the item out anyway.
I sent another message with my phone details and asked again to give me the address and pick up time but he has not responded.
I tried the eBay help line many times, which took me round and round in circles and does not give any advice relating to pick up arrangements. In fact it told me sellers don’t have to respond to messages.
How else do you receive the details to pick items up.
I have tried several times to get to speak to a real person but the system just cuts me off. I have been trying for more than 30 days and it now seems the system won’t help beyond that time!
Any ideas please? 🙏

Mentor3 weeks agoYou have 30 days to report an item that you haven't received to pursue a refund via eBay, same for PayPal.
If you paid with a debit/credit card or ApplePay you have 120 days to issue a not received chargeback.

Mentor3 weeks agoYou may be too late now to get your money back via ebay but try "not received" via the dropdown menu arrow for the item on your purchases list. If not contact your payment provider and ask them.

OP3 weeks agoThanks for that Peaseblossom, I’ll give that a go. Thankfully I used PayPal and I have always found them to be helpful.
It’s a shame the eBay system isn’t robust. There are two possibilities… one is their system process developers are inept or two they deliberately design the system to prevent difficult problems being escalated!

Mentor3 weeks agoPaypal like ebay only allow 30 days, so keep an eye on the “delivery” date shown

Mentor3 weeks agoeBay CS cannot force the seller to reply.
Give it another few days , maybe they are busy at work etc. and yes, some are just bad communicators.
If they do not reply with an address, you will need to after say when 7 days pass, open a case for item not received, escalate on day 4 , if not refunded beforehand.
Not ideal I know, as you want the item not the money, but if the seller is not answering messages, for whatever reason, the above is what you will need to do.

OP3 weeks agoThere has to be a mechanism to advise the buyer of the location of goods if delivery is not an option.

Mentor3 weeks agoThere is, the seller gives you the collection address.
