Buying from the US import taxes etc
Hi, I’ve ordered 2 items from the US worth approx £250 each. I just wondered how it works with my parcel arriving and if there will be import tax and/or VAT to pay when they arrive in the UK
Thanks
Kevin.

Mentor11 months agoI can't understand why you didn't look into the additional costs payable when importing items from overses sellers - on eBay, or anywhere else.
Hopefully, whatever you have to pay won't detract too much from your enjoyment of the item. Remember th that any warranty may offered not be valid in the UK, which can be another downside of buying from abroad.
The important thing is that you are now committed to the purchase. If you were to refuse to accept delivery you would immediately lose any rights under eBay's money back guarantee.

Mentor11 months agoBecause your imported items will have a declared value of over £135, Customs Duty will be applicable.
Import VAT is payable up to £135 and collected by eBay in advance at checkout, but orders over £135 are charged at receiver end.
There'll be a courier admin fee to pay as well, this may be quite high if your order is being sent via a courier such as FedEx or DHL.
HMRC have details of Customs Duty fees on their website.

Mentor11 months agoadding to the advice already given -
If your seller used eBay Global shipping for your purchase then you would have paid all import charges upfront at the time of purchase.

Mentor11 months agoAs the value is over that at which ebay deals with the import VAT, you will pay the VAT, duty and courier fees when your items arrive.

Mentor11 months agoBe aware that any purchases from outside the UK are subject to additional UK Import VAT @20% and any other Customs Duty and Shipping charges based on £s limits >
