Buyer won item but refuses to pay full amount
I’m fairly new to eBay so I need some advice. My buyer won the auction for my item at a total of £792 (£770 plus the £22 buyer protection fee). As soon as the auction ended they messaged me and said they can’t afford £792 but would pay £750. I’m really annoyed and don’t know what to do, I’ve messaged them saying they knew what their total cost would be if they won and the total to pay is £792. They have not replied and I don’t know where I stand. Do they have to honour their bid or can buyers get away with bidding high to win and then refusing to pay? Thanks in advance

Mentor9 months agoYou have correctly decided that this behaviour is unaccepable. However, it was unwise to relist it until you have sorted out the original sale. If the original buyer still pays for it you could end up selling it twice, and almost certainly get negative feedback from one orf both buyers!
Do as has been advised, wait 4 days as required and then cancel for non-payment. To be safe, I would recommend removing the item from sale until you have been able to do this.
By the way, if a buyer accepts the collection in person option, be sure to require production of eBay's collection code before releasing it. Selling gold coins on eBay is liable to attract scammers, both before and after a sale. This includes a risk of fraudulent money back guarantee returns. If you wish to ask here for advice on how to handle these, please do so immediately on receipt of the case. It can be difficult or impossible to protect yourself against some frauds, but eBay gives sellers so little time to respond that it's also easy to lose both the money and the item just by not following the procedure correctly.

OP9 months agoThanks for the advice. I reposted the item hoping to keep the other bidders interested and didn’t want to leave it too long. The time waster has messaged asking it to be cancelled and advising me to re-list the item so I don’t imagine they will cause issues, but people are unpredictable. Next time this happens I’ll be sure to deal with it more effectively with yours and everyone’s advice. Thanks again

Mentor9 months agoThis is tricky. I would not contact them again and if they don't pay in 4days, cancel using 'buyer didn't pay' as the reason. They will get a strike.
It's tricky because if they pay then they could make trouble down the line.
To avoid that you could cancel now saying buyer changed their mind, but they don't get a strike then.

Mentor9 months ago4 days after sale end, cancel - buyer not paid.
This gives them a strike and neither of you can leave feedback.
