Buyer wants a refund after QR code has been created
Summary: jwright888 is dealing with a situation where a buyer requested a refund after a QR code for Royal Mail postage was generated. They have discovered that this complicates refunding through eBay and are seeking advice. john1297576 advised that if the buyer paid for the postage, they would automatically receive a refund in 30 days if unused, and suggested jwright888 cancel the unused label. tobiasd4 added that cancelling the buyer’s request should automatically issue a refund.
I have someone who purchased an item from me and asked for a refund after I had got the QR code for the Royal Mail postage. I didn't realise that in me getting the QR code (even though I haven't got to the Post Office yet and had it scanned)- the buyer can't have a refund? I'm happy to let them have the refund as they state that they chose the wrong payment method- but eBay isn't letting me. Does anyone know if I can do anything to sort this, or are my hands tied now that I have the QR code?

Mentor3 weeks agoWho bought / paid for the postage? If the buyer and postage not used then they get a refund automatically in 30 days, if you paid then you have to cancel the unused label.
As far as refunding the buyer, you should be able to refund the amount you received, but if money has not been released the refund eould have to come from another source ususlly your bank account.

OP3 weeks agoThank you for messaging. The buyer paid for the postage, so I will speak to them and let them know about that. To confirm, with the item itself- am I right to assume that if I don't send it, then there would be an automatic refund sent to the buyer?

OP3 weeks agoThank you- I managed to refund the buyer, im not sure about what will happen with the postage/buyers protection - I must admit, I have only really started selling in recent months, this is the first time this has happened. Appreciate the helpful responses.
