BUYER REFUSED PARCEL SCAM
Hi there, I wonder if someone can give me some hope. I purchased a high value item particularly a samsung s25 utra for £660 with a photo showing a receipt from currys on March this year (2025) for double the price - around £1.3k I know what you will say - too good to be true but looking at similar listings it is near the average price on ebay right now . The parcel was a delay with 1 day extra, the seller used RM 48 with a £150 compensation which made me wonder WHAT IF .. Anyway. The parcel arrived at my delivery office in my home town and was due for delivery on the day, however they didn't deliver it on Thursday as per tracking. On Friday tracking changed to delivery today but for some reason it did not come again. The next day ( saturday) the tracking showed a scan at a nearby town delivery office 10 miles away. with post code similar but different from mine. Then later in the day tracking showed PARCEL REFUSED BY RECIPIENT -RETURNED TO SENDER. I Tried to communicate with the sender without any luck . No response. Spoke with ebay who said that I need to wait 7 days to open a case but as the tracking was showing that there was an attempt than the seller can keep the money and the item when it gets back to him. I can appeal and can investigate but this is causing me a lot of worry as this is a lot of money for us to be scammed off. I've read somewhere where it says that if the post code of the attempt is within 10 miles of the original address basically we are lost and we will lose our money. Is that the case? I paid with paypal, is it the same situation with paypal or if I open a case on paypal and the tracking show that the item has been returned to the seller, would paypal refund me ? Unfortunatelly as it was direct debit through my bank with paypal, I can't file a claim with the bank but only paypal? I managed to find the seller's phone number ( don't ask how), when I called him he was acting sarcastically and then hung up on me. Can I file a small court claim and where do I stand with that as well as it could within the ebay and paypal t&c all of this ? Would be very helpful if someone can advise me on what to do ! This is a pretty common scam doing the rounds right now. You have 180 days to open a PayPal item not received claim, so try and sort this out via eBay if you can afford to have that amount of money held in limbo while it gets sorted out. You need to make it clear in the eBay item not received case that you have not received the order, that the tracking number shows that attempted delivery was made to a different address that isn't yours. If you lose that, you can appeal. Again, it all takes time.
How different is the postcode? Is the first part the same as yours?
Your other option is to jump straight to PayPal (do not, whatever you do, open claims with eBay and PayPal at the same time), they check tracking more thoroughly.
It's vital to keep things simple and concise when opening a claim, do not mention anything about receipts or anything that's going to muddy the waters, just stick to one short paragraph - you have not received the order, that the tracking number shows that attempted delivery was made to a different address that isn't yours.
You mentioned that this is a bank funded payment via PayPal - would that be direct from your bank account or via debit card that you have registered with PayPal?

Mentor7 months agoKeep in mind that paypal case must also be within 30 days, so do not wait too long.
Something to bear in mind when buying expensive items, that both ebay and paypal only allow 30 days, so best to use a credit card and have the back up of 180 days, with the card.
You mention changes in delivery dates, the delivery date you go by is tge original one given by ebay, that will not change and case for not received can be started as soon as past that date. Unfortunately ebay accepts attempted delivery as good enough, but I doubt this applies to paypal.

Mentor7 months agoContact ebay again and make it clear you did not refuse the item. In any case you don't have it so they should refund your money. Wait to see what happens but if no luck there open a case with Paypal after the ebay one has fully completed. Or try the small claims court, now called moneyclaim online:

Mentor7 months agoIf the purchase was in March you are far too late to make any claim with either eBay or Paypal, claims need to be made within 30 days of estimated delivery.

The date of the original receipt when the seller bought it from Currys is irrelevant.
When did you buy it on eBay??? This is what determines your rights.
It's hard to advise correctly without this essential information.

OP7 months agoI know it's irrelevant, I just wanted to describe the whole thing with all the details as it seems suspicious of someone selling latest s23 ultra phone for half of the price from what he paid 9 monhs ago.
