Buyer opened false ‘Not Working’ case to avoid return postage, advice needed
eBay is an absolute joke when it comes to protecting sellers.
I had a buyer open a completely false “item not working” case just to dodge return postage fees. Then they went further, they called me a scammer and even tried blackmailing me. On top of that, they left unfair negative feedback.
I reported everything, and eBay confirmed to me it was a false claim. They promised to refund the postage fees. But as always, nothing happened. No refund, no feedback removal, no action. Just lies from customer service, one after another.
eBay is happy to take money from sellers, but when it comes to protecting us, they do NOTHING. Buyers can lie, cheat, abuse the system, call sellers scammers, blackmail us, and eBay looks the other way. Absolute disgrace.
Has anyone here ever actually seen eBay stand up for a seller in cases like this? Or is the reality just that buyers have all the power and sellers are left to eat the losses every time?

Mentor10 months agoYou have my sympathy. Ebay CS always tell you what they think you want to hear, and then do nothing. The truth is they almost never favour the seller in these cases, and some buyers know how to work the system so they can scam poor unsuspecting sellers.
Until the system is changed, and I don't suppose it ever will because it is profitable for ebay, it will stay like that.

OP10 months agoFully agree with you, thank you. I also think we sellers should start sharing our block lists with each other, it’s the only way to stop these types of buyers from hitting more sellers.

Mentor10 months agoWhen a buyer opens a "not as described" return the only thing you can do is accept it, send them a label and refund on return. Ebay doesn't get involved with who's right and who's wrong, they just ask the buyer to send it back to the seller and seller refunds.
If, when you get the item back it has been damaged by the buyer, or it is a different item altogether you can report them to ebay BEFORE refunding. Ebay may refund the postage, but there is no guarantee.
Ebay isn't allowing me to see the feedback but if they have mentined ebay or case or dispute you should be able to ask ebay to remove it.

OP10 months agoThanks for your reply, I do understand the process, but that’s exactly what’s so frustrating. This is not just a one-time issue, it keeps happening. Buyers know how to abuse the system by opening false “not as described” cases just to avoid paying return postage, and sellers are left with no choice but to accept it.
What makes it worse is that eBay support admitted to me this was a false claim and promised me the postage fees would be refunded. But nothing happened. Promises are made, then forgotten. It feels like sellers are given empty words while buyers continue to take advantage.
It’s extremely frustrating to see the same pattern repeat and have no real protection, while eBay looks the other way.
