buyer issues return postage for defective item and then messages and says address is wrong
Hi
I bought an item (won an auction) but when the item arrived it was defective.
After a few messages I put in a return claim.
The next day I got a message that the seller had accepted the claim, and ebay are giving me a return postage label.
Then the seller messaged me and says that the address is wrong and that I should use this other address.
Two issues:-
1. The seller is supposed to pay for the return.
2. If I return it to the other address, then there won't be any tracking to the address that ebay put on the return label, so maybe I won't get refunded.
3. but equally, if the address is "wrong", then the seller won't receive it back so maybe I won't get a refund.
what should I do?

OP10 months agoI got my refund.
The seller tried to escalate to ebay complaining that I had returned it to the wrong address. He even tried to use one of my messages by quoting it to customer services. ebay immediately refunding and closed the case which I don't think is what he wanted. I will paste my message just to give you all a laugh:-

Mentor10 months agoGood news.
You used MBG correctly, it is up to sellers to keep their account details upto date.

OP10 months agoThat option isn't there. It just says
"The item's on the way back
Your refund should process within 3 days of delivery."
Maybe I have to wait longer before the option to ask ebay appears.

I would maybe wait until Friday and then contact Ebay Customer Services.
Get them to look at the tracking showing the delivery attempts and the avalability for collection, and ask them to refund you.

·10 months agoGo back to the case and see if the option to ask Ebay to step in is available to you.

Mentor10 months agoGo to case details, click more actions.
Select ask ebay to step in.
Tracking only has to show attempted delivery, so ebay will sort refund.

Mentor10 months agoYou should go by the address issued by ebay. They only require attempted delivery for refunds. It's up to the seller to keep their details on ebay up to date. Do not close your return, you won't be able to open another one.

OP10 months agothanks
I have messaged the seller and told them that I am going to use the ebay supplied return label. I guess I will give them a day or two to respond and then send it.
is there a way that the seller can fix this if they have made an honest mistake?
I suppose the other point is that the two addresses are only 1.9 miles apart so they can always go and collect it from the "wrong" address.

Mentor10 months agoThey can change return address in Account > Personal information > Addresses but I don't believe that will fix it for a current transaction. You could tell them to do that and see if they can reissue a correct postage label. If not hopefully they'll be able to retrieve the parcel from their previous address.
