Avoiding a pending payment cancellation
Summary: egeep won a bid on a vehicle but is concerned about making the payment before confirming vehicle documents and arranging transport. They face an alert indicating the order might be canceled if not paid promptly. john1297576 advises that payment should be made in cash after inspection to avoid risks, noting that eBay will not intervene in private vehicle sales and emphasizing the importance of convincing the seller not to cancel the order too hastily.
Hello all,I have won the bids on a vehicle on Saturday the 11th of July, and I can only finalise it a week after wining the bids, because I need to book in advance a vehicle transporter. I wasn't too sure if I will win,so I didn't book the transporter for the 11th,as it will be a waste of costs. I have to make also,an appointment will the landlord of the storage unit....I have notice an alert on the intended purchase, that the order will be cancelled if I do not pay. I do not want to pay, until I have seen the vehicle registration documents to see if it is registered in the name of the seller. Also,if I do pay now before the collection day on the 18th of July, then the seller could say it was stolen. I have tried to contact ebay, but the bot isn't helpful. I'd be grateful of your replies and advise

OPJul 15, 2026 at 9:03 PMthankyou John for your replies. I have been in contact with the seller, and he is aware of what I am up against. I read on ebay, that both the seller and ebay can cancel.

MentorJul 15, 2026 at 8:41 PMPayment must be in cash after inspection. There is no buyer protection for vehicles so that avoids buyer losing their money and no car.
You need to convince seller not to cancel as you will pay after inspecting the vehicle.
It is not in sellers interest to cancel too quickly, as he will have paid a listing fee, which is not refundable, for nothing, and if relisting will have to pay again.
