appeal re sand filled doorstops
Summary: albertarnolddesignsuk is facing an issue with eBay after their listing for a homemade doorstop filled with certified asbestos-free sand was removed due to a policy violation related to legislation on asbestos. Despite having independent certification, eBay customer service has been unresponsive, and they are seeking advice on how to escalate the issue beyond customer service. papso22 suggested upgrading to a business account but noted that changing eBay's decision is unlikely, as even AI might flag the listing again, potentially leading to an account ban.
Is it possible to take the finding of an appeal further? I have made a doorstop from scratch and filled it with Tarmac Kiln Dried Sand that is certified asbestos free. eBay has removed the listing claiming a policy violation. The policy in question refers me to government legislation regarding findings of asbestos in play sand and certain other sand filled products. The government guidance sets out a long list of recalled sand products but nowhere does it say that builders' sand is dangerous, it just refers to specific items from mainstream shops eg craft kits for children and doorstops from specific suppliers eg John Lewis.
Having contacted Tarmac, I now have an independent certificate which shows their sand has been tested and does not contain asbestos but customer service at eBay was not prepared to look at this. They simply refer me back to the legislation which does not ban my product - it's really frustrating.
How can I bypass the customer service agent to avoid yet another circular debate? eBay is very keen for me not to be able to speak to the legal department which i think is now justified.

Mentor3 weeks agoThe first thing you should do is upgrade to a business account if you are going to continue to sell your handmade items.
However, the chances of getting ebay to change their mind about the sand are pretty much nil. Even if they did, AI would probably remove the listings again, which can eventually lead to a total ban of your account.
