Appeal a closed return request
A defective item was purchased, but it took a few weeks before it became apparent that the item was useless and not fit for purpose. Seller declined return and ebay simply closed the case. This means that Ebay denies statutory rights and condones the sale of defective items. There now seems no way to actually make contact with a real agent at Ebay. The value is trivial but the principle is very important.

Mentor6 months agoYou're still covered by consumer rights as it was business seller,
But ebay won't get involved beyond their own 30 day MBG.

Mentor6 months agoOnce you are over 30 days, then while you can open a case, it will just close.
You can contact your payment provider, but if you used Paypal that also restricts to 30 days.
If payment provider unable to help, if a business seller you could try citizens advice, but if a private seller nothing you can do.

OP6 months agoHi,
Thanks for your message. It was a business Seller, so I suppose I could sue them for breach of the sale of goods act - but obviously it isn't worth the extreme hassle. My complaints are that I think it is very poor that Ebay doesn't look after the injured party even after 30 days when a business seller is in breach of the law. It is also poor that you cannot actually contact (by any method) a real person at Ebay to discuss anything - just a useless AI computer.

Mentor6 months agoA money back guarantee without strictly enforced time limits and no exceptions, would be unworkable.

Mentor6 months agoeBay have a strict deadline of 30 days for claims. You could try your payment provider.
