Aged 71 but have to prove it
Hi, I am 71 years old and wanted to buy a chainsaw but was rejected twice. Can eBav have a system where someone of my age can buy a bladed item; within he UK; as now I'm going to Screwfix.

It makes no difference whether you're 21 or 71. The law requires the sale of certain items to be age verified. If you looked under-age, Screwfix would or should require age verification. eBay doesn't see users in person and membership is not age verified (It probably ought to be, as both buyers and sellers enter into legally binding contracts, yet may minors have lied about their age to open accounts).
I agree with tommytrezures that you're better off buying a chain saw from a known reputable dealer. eBay even warns buyers that they don't guarantee that items sold here will be truthfully described, safe or even legal. Does this sound like a good place to buy a safety-critical item like a chain saw?

Mentor2 weeks agoThe short answer to your question is NO. Under UK law from the weapons Act, eBay and other platforms have to comply with with UK legislation. eBay use credit card as their method, as legally you have to be 18 years old to have one. - Anyone can have a debit card for example.
Personally with an item of this nature I would be doing what you are and going to a reputable retailer to buy an item of this nature. At least you will have a warranty thats enforceable if something goes wrong which you wouldn't on eBay.
