Age verification
Recently I tried to buy a set of axes for chopping wood only for payment to be stopped unless I added a credit card I dont have or want a credit card the other method was to go to an age verification app which im not keen on yet another app having my info so how do I move forward on this from what I understand if you are an ebay member you need to be over 18 so why all this extra red tape im over 60 years old !

Mentor4 months agoIt's not red tape, it's UK law that one has to be over the age of 18 to buy such items.
The only way eBay allow this verification of age, is for a credit card to be presented at time of sale, or at time of buying, as credit card companies have already done very stringent checks to ensure that person is over the age of 18, so eBay have ' piggy backed' if you like , taken their verification processes to use for their own.
Anyone of any age can own a debit card.
You may be over the age of 60, but this would not prevent a minor using your account to buy a bladed item, hence the asking for this, at time of purchase.
It is annoying I fully understand, not everyone has or wishes to own a credit card, my parents never had them, but this is the only way, the cheapest way, for eBay to act within the rules, for selling any bladed item online.

OP4 months agoI understand its restricted and uk law that isnt the issue its the fact you have to be 18 to hold an ebay account so I dont see the need for extra security

eBay membership is not age verified, so holding an account proves nothing. Plenty of underage users have opened eBay accounts!
There are other ways of verifying age, but most would require eBay to check documentation. The simple solution for eBay to prove age is by ownership of a credit card, so that's what they require.
It's their site, their rules. Presumably they're prepared to accept the loss of some sales.
