Age verification ???
I have been buying off ebay for over 10 years. Today I went to buy a couple of pairs of medical shears and ebay have decided that I'm not old enough and need to take my credit card details to prove my age.
I don't leave my card details on any site, but a simple check of my buying history will show them that I have brought plenty of bladed items before.
This is going to cost ebay, a lot of custom, TEMU is a lot cheaper and the customer services are a whole lot better, you can actually contact them.

Mentor1 year agoTrue that other online sites have different age verification options, but eBay only accept one, and that is owning and registering a credit card on your eBay account. You have to be 18 years or older to own one as anyone of any age can own a debit card.
It also has another purpose. With no card on your account, this also shows hopefully , your responsibility for anyone in your household who may not be of 18 years + , to not be able to use your account to buy bladed items.
It not only covers yourself , but members of your household with access to your account.

OP1 year agoBeen using ebay for many years and paid with a credit card every time, so a
simple check of my account would flag up that simple fact.
ebays inability to do a simple check has cost one of their sellers to lose
out on a £150 order, I have explained to the seller and wonder just how
long they will stay on ebay

Mentor1 year agoAge verification has to be taken at the time of purchase so any historical data would be invalid.
A credit card is only used for verification and will not be charged or saved.
Payment may be made by alternative methods at checkout

OP1 year agoI have been paying by credit card for nearly ten years on ebay, so a quick
check of their records would show that fact

Mentor1 year agoI read your post but as I said " any historical data would be invalid"
eBay's bladed products policy requires buyers to be 18 or older, verified by a credit card at checkout, and requires sellers to use age-verified delivery services for all bladed items

OP11 months agoI paid for the item with a credit card at the checkout, how is that "historical data"?
Hardly matters as ebay cost that seller that sale and the rest of the items on that sale as well

Mentor11 months agoebay have decided that I'm not old enought
Of course they haven't. They just require age verification for bladed items.
There are plenty of ways of age verification, but most would involve checking documents, trading records etc.
eBay has decided to do it the easy way: require a credit card, which you have to be aged 18 or over to own.
Users keep posting here to moan about ths. We can only explain eBay's rules. If you want to moan, please moan to eBay.
