Age Restrictions added to auction listing without my knowledge - several people couldn't bid
Summary: reevaweaver has expressed concern about age restrictions being added to their auction listing without their knowledge, which prevented several potential bidders from participating. There are no responses provided in the discussion yet.
I listed a vintage bricklayers' trowel as an auction listing, shipping was added as normal 'Simple Delivery'. I have sold several of my collection of trowels in the past and they have always shipped by straight forward Ebay SD. The trowel sold for significantly less than the expected sale price - near half. I then started to get messages from buyers who had been unable to bid on the item in the run up to the auction close. All said that they had been prevented from bidding with bids higher than the winning bid because of Age Verification - even people with credit cards simply could not respond to an age verification request in the last few seconds of the auction.
In a nutshell, there was no indication, to me or potential buyers, that the item had been age restricted. For buyers they only became aware at the point of bidding. I only became aware after buyers contacted me to say they had been prevented from bidding.
I'm going to cancel the sale and doubtless get negative feedback because I'm damned if I'm going to pay for Ebay's mistake.
