Advice on postage for cards

I have recently started selling multiple quantity listings of trading cards a lot of them are worth £1-£5 therefore i have not been using simple delivery, as postage for buyers cost £2.70 where as a normal letter costs with royal mail costs 90p a big difference, i’ve just had my first ebay claim stating they have not turned up (posted 4 days ago) now slightly worried there trying to pull a fast one for a refund even if they do, as tracking does not show as delivered, any advice on postage costs and whats best to do
