Advert fee charged despite ad option was cancelled earlier
Summary: tamaslestar experienced a charge from eBay for an advert fee despite canceling the ad scheme weeks before the item was sold, and encountered errors when attempting earlier cancellations. tressygirl suggested attempting a refund by contacting eBay Customer Services, though they acknowledged it can be challenging to reach a live agent. tommystrezures expressed skepticism about getting a refund, suggesting eBay might claim the promotion was used despite the cancellation.
Hello all, I wonder if you could help.
An advert fee was deducted by eBay after item sold, although I cancelled the ad scheme a few weeks before the item was sold (listing was alive for a year or so).
Apart from this, I had tried to cancel the ad several times (several months ago) on my mobile phone when I edited the ad. However, it returned an error message at the last step.
Is there a chance to get a refund from eBay as I don't it is fair to lose the ad fee on this occasion.
Thank you
tommystrezures
MentorJul 19, 2026 at 2:00 PMI doubt you’ll get joy from eBay what type of promotion fee was it? EBay will say hold on you cancelled but we promoted this item, albeit some time ago.

MentorJul 19, 2026 at 12:40 PMYou can but try for a refund for this promotion fee, don't ask don't get as they say! No harm asking CS.
Contacting eBay Customer Services is not easy nowadays to get a live agent , but some have had success using the app, otherwise keep typing in ' I wish to speak to an agent' and this too can work.
Use this link to contact CS, if you can try at 8 a.m. on a weekday morning also more chance there for Dublin to answer.
