A Buyer False Claimed - Returned a Totally Damaged Phone, back
Summary: greatserviceuk expressed frustration over a transaction issue on a platform where they sold a smartphone that was later returned in a damaged condition. Despite providing evidence, they were forced to issue a refund and have received no response from the platform after two weeks. They are seeking advice on how to handle the situation, feeling it was an unfair and potentially fraudulent return by the buyer.
Hi there,
I have been using this platform since 2021 and have regularly bought and sold items that I no longer need.
Recently, I sold a smartphone. About a week after the buyer received it, they claimed that the phone was not working and requested a return. I agreed and asked them to send back the exact same device in the same condition as it was delivered.
However, when I opened the returned package, I was shocked to find that the smartphone had been severely damaged, appearing to be corroded from exposure to a large amount of salty water, possibly from the sea or ocean.
I immediately reported the issue and uploaded photos, evidence, and detailed information showing the condition of the returned phone compared with the condition in which it was originally sent. Despite this, the only available option was to refund the buyer, with the case supposedly being reviewed by eBay.
It has now been over two weeks, and I have not received any response or update from eBay.
I feel this situation is unfair, as I have lost money due to what appears to be a dishonest return. I would appreciate advice on how to handle this situation and what steps I should take next.
Could you please advise me on the best way to proceed?
Thank you.

Mentor3 weeks agoOnce a case is opened, if not dealt with promptly by seller then buyer can escalate to ebay after three days, who take over and refund and you the seller get a defect.
You may be lucky and buyer either does not know about involving ebay, or is concerned about the consequences of his abuse of the return process.
I hope this is the case as it is very difficult to get ebay to see the sellers point of view, and it is generally the seller who loses.
