Advice on Import Duty
Summary: ricea_7892 purchased a watch from the US and paid import duty upon collecting it from a Royal Mail depot. The watch was faulty and returned, prompting ricea_7892 to submit a C&E 1179 form to HM Revenue & Customs to reclaim the import duty. Despite an expected processing time of 30 days, they have not received a response for four months. papso22 suggests continuing to follow up with HMRC, noting that their own similar claim was resolved in a few weeks, indicating that there may be an issue with ricea_7892's claim.
Hi,I purchased a watch from the US which unfortunately was faulty & it was duly returned.Initially when purchasing the said watch I had to pay import duty which was something I was aware of.Because the watch was faulty I am trying to reclaim the import charge.I was advised to submit C&E 1179 form to HM Revenue & Customs which I duly did via post, however the form stated it would be dealt with in around 30 days, this was around 4 months ago & I still have not heard anything back from HMRC.I have sent a further email today 17/6/26 to HMRC,could anyone advise as this has been dragging on for sometime ? Regards,Richard.

·1 month agoOk, so that means you do need to claim direct from HMRC, but you will just need to keep chasing them. I claimed a few years ago and it only took a few weeks for the refund, so something does seem to have gone wrong with your claim.
