Dark Mode is here!
Summary: The discussion, titled "Dark Mode is here!", wasn't very active until a participant humorously asked for a dark mode feature when someone mentioned a potential eBay acquisition by a third party. This request appears to be more of a light-hearted comment rather than a serious feature request.
Hi all,
We have been working behind the scenes and are happy to announce we will now have the option of Dark Mode across our communities.
Some benefits of dark mode include, less strain on your eyes, less exposure to blue light from screens and it can help to save some battery life on your device.
To turn on dark mode go to My Settings > Preferences > Display > tick "Turn on Dark Mode". It will take a few seconds to load and then the whole site will be transformed.
Thank you for being apart of the UK Community.

·1 year agoI have ONLY found dark mode on the mobile app. However there is not such thing as "My Settings' on the website. So instead of moaning about it, it's soo much easier to download an browser extension to force a website to show up in dark mode.

·1 year agoAll customers should start walking away from ebay then they will give dark mode for desktop. Don't you understand the white screen hurts so much

·1 year agoWe're well and truely in "Dark Mode" with NO VIEWS AND NO SALES FOR MANY WEEKS
When is eBay going to revert the searches like they were before this new horrible PAY FOR MORE VISIBILITY SCHEME you've now introduced to fleece sellers of even MORE MONEY and DENY small sellers their rightful visibility which they always had before Item specifics and promoted listings was smartly introduced ?????????
Oh, I see this IS Dark Mode then ! where my listings are GOHSTED and most of my listings remain on ZERO VIEWS ! 😞 😞 😞

·2 years agoAs was suggested by @pr3dat0rz post (4 ones above this one) if you want it on Chrome type the following into your search bar:
chrome://flags
At the top of the page is the option to search. Look for 'dark'. One option should come up. When it does on the right hand side of the screen there is the option set to 'default'. Click this box and choose the option 'Auto Dark For Web Contents' or whatever option works best for you and the sites you use. Bookmark this page and anytime you want to switch back to non-dark, return the settings to default again.

·2 years agoThis dark mode is only for the community forum. To enable it for ebay.co.uk you need to search how to force dark mode via flags for example in microsoft edge:
1. type in search window: edge://flags
2. search dark
3. click enable
Now all websites including ebay will be forced to use dark mode

Hope this helps and is more clear than OP

·2 years agoThe best way i have figured out to get Ebay working in dark mode is to use the hidden feature in the Edge browser if you use it.
Type the following in the address bar
edge://flags/#enable-force-dark
Then select "Enabled" from the dropdpwn box. Then press the restart button at the bottom. Dark mode should now be active on every website. Hope this helps anyone.

·2 years agothis browser extension works on ebay! highly reccomend 🙂
Dark Mode
Dark Mode is an add-on that helps you quickly turn the screen (browser) to dark at night time.
Toolbar button serves as an ON|OFF switch which enables you to easily and quickly turn the extension ON or OFF. If you do not like the current dark theme, please visit the options page and choose a different theme from over 50 available options.
There is also a white-list feature which enables you to exclude a desired domain from dark mode. Simply add a domain(s) to the designated area (comma separated) in the options page and the websites will be excluded from night mode. Alternatively, you can use the context-menu item in mouse right-click to exclude desired websites.
To report bugs, please fill the bug report form on the add-on's homepage...

·2 years agoInstalling random extensions is not an option. These frequently become loaded with malicious code, quite commonly being removed from their respective extension stores.
All servcies I use online either have a default view thats easy on the eyes or a dark mode toggle. Ebay needs to take responsibility for their community and get with the times!
houseoftheyuccas
·2 years agoJust install Dark Reader--this works on all sites including Ebay

·2 years agoHow has it been 2 years since this community post and still no sign of an official dark mode for the desktop version of the site? Absolutely mind boggling.
If it's not technically possible for your team to implement a dark mode, then just say so! The best way forward would be, at the very least, honest with the buyers and sellers on this site that ebay would be absolutely nothing without!
If your team can't do it, then maybe use a small portion of the many billions of dollars ebay has to outsource it???
This reeks of a management problem and the issue not being properly escalated to the right part of the business.
ups-trader
·3 years agoAs before - until they make sellers take the main image with a transparency layer that can then be black or white they are not going to give a dark mode!
Perhaps they could auto flip anything white to black - the images would have white halos but I dont think I'd mind that.

·3 years agoAfter reading Emails and reading the news in Dark Mode i go onto eBay and it is like looking at the sun 😎 ,i find that the big money makers like eBay are not coming in line with what the user requires , a few little tweaks here and there make all the difference ,if eBay has an common interested in presentation of their web page on the desktop then Dark Mode should be a priority.

·3 years agoIs this still not sorted out? I keep ending up back here every year in the hope that eBay will allow this obvious option. I just don't understand why they won't allow it. I bet if they trialled it people would stay on the ebay website for longer if it didn't waste power and hurt your eyes so much.

·3 years agoRe: "Thank you for being apart of the UK Community."
Mambers of the Grammar Police and of The Association of Rivet-Counters are asking: did you mean "a part"?
I will soon be "apart" if the get-login-code-by-voice problem isn't fixed soon.
For many Ebayers it's a hassle.
For we, the hearing impaired, it's a nightmare.

·3 years agoI would benefit from dark mode on the website.
I think The problem is eBay have been encouraging sellers to have white background images, which will look silly with dark mode.
I didnt waste any time taking photots with a white background.

·3 years agoGreat that it's available on the community pages, but still seemingly not available on the main site yet Finding I dont use ebay as much as I once did, as the white website burns my eyeballs out when searching, so many other sites support dark themes already....... 😞

·3 years agoIt's bad enough that some bits of the eBay main page look like they have been done on the cheap using html basic, but at least give us a Dark Mode option...guess i need to invest in a pair of sunglasses to wear while using the standard version until they do. >.<

·3 years agoThis really needs to be put on the ebay main page for PC not just for smartphones. Not everyone with older eyes like to have so much white glare when using the website, it's even worse now that they have just recently changed the nectar points link for an even whiter screen with a lot less text.

·3 years agoAny chance we're getting Dark Mode on the auction site as well? This is a long wanted and needed feature that many requested and it's only available on Community pages. There is no such thing as Dark Mode or My Settings in the Auction site for desktop pc.
