Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order, and will quote the original question in each answer.
Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

·1 year agoI was under the impression ebay would be asking for numbers, and wondered which one.
Anonymous User
·1 year agoCome January when you have to report to HMRC, i'm a sole trader, will my UTR number do for your requirements or does it have to be NINO...?
dave@ebay
Hi @Anonymous
Unfortunately thats not something we can help with here. It would probably be worth checking with a financial adviser. They should be able to provide you some clarification.
Thanks,
Dave
Anonymous User
·1 year agoBut it will be ebay asking for the NINO/UTR, so they must surely know what they will be asking for?
I would prefer to use the UTR I had from self employment days, even though I am only a private seller now, so I would also like to know exactly which number ebay will be asking for.
dave@ebay
Hi @Anonymous
This isn't something our team deals with. You can reach out to customer support who may be able to help you with this.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks Dave, but given that if you ask 5 customer support staff the same question you will likely get 5 different answers, it would be nice to have something down in writing. Perhaps you could pass on a suggestion that an announcement on this would be helpful?
dave@ebay
Hi @Anonymous
There will usually be a post on the announcement board or some communication through the usual channels closer to the time. I have asked for some more information on it and we will reach out ASAP.
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry that doesn't make sense, which number will eBay be asking sole trader business sellers for? A financial advisor can't answer on behalf of eBay.

dave@ebay
Hi @bojangled
You can reach out the guys in Customer Support, they may be able to provide you more information on this. As its not we deal with I cant give an answer. We will however have more communications closer to the time.
Thanks,

·1 year agoHi there, if I don't sell to the EU or Northern Ireland, do I have to comply with the new General Product Safety Regulations? Thanks!
kat@ebay
Hi @hanging_sheep ,
You only need to comply with these GPSR regulations if you do sell to the EU & Northern Ireland.
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoHi Kat
Thank you for your reply. So am I just getting the emails to update my listings because its a mass generic email to all ebayer sellers as I removed selling to all EU and NI a few weeks ago when we first learned about these new regulations? Thanks
kat@ebay
Hi @hanging_sheep ,
Yes its a mass email that went out to remind all sellers of the new requirements for these regulations. If your no longer selling to the EU and NI then it won't apply to you.
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoCan you explain why the 'working as intended, nothing wrong with it, dynamic EDD' would show an order as 'running behind' while it's still half a day within the estimate?
On a personal purchase, the estimate was September 4th-5th. At 11:50am on the 5th, I was told it was 'running behind'. How is it possible for an item to be running behind when the EDD hasn't yet passed?
marco@ebay
Hi @darth_baggins, thanks for your question.
If you confirm the item number, I can look into it after the chat, and provide you with an update as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoCan I DM this? Purchase was on a different account.
marco@ebay
Thanks for your reply, @darth_baggins.
You can, but it has to be from the account the order was placed from. Otherwise, we won't be able to look into it for privacy and security reasons.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoIs traffic to ebay.uk falling sharply as sales are dire.
dave@ebay
Hi @Anonymous
I'm not aware of any drops in traffic. Depending on the category you list in, it could be a seasonal dip. We sometimes see them as we come into peak trading.
Thanks,
Dave

·1 year agoGood afternoon
We had a message from ebay about the General Product Safety Regulations. It provided a link by clicking "start complying today" when we clicked this it took us to our active listings page.
My question is:
We have many products that will have the same contact details to add on the listings. How do we add this information onto those listing as a bulk edit please.
I have asked ebay CS and what they suggested did not work, and then said I had to edit each listing individually.
Can you give STEP BY STEP instructions please?
Best wishes & thank you
kat@ebay
Hi @lincolnshiremarine ,
I know the functionality for this new info has just been introduced so the bulk edit may not work initially. Can you advise what steps you have done so far to try and do it in bulk?
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoHi Kat
I ticked the box on the listings I wanted to change, if I click edit then just one of listing comes up.
If I click on the arrow the drop down menu gives me lots of options, "add item Specifics" this does not bring me to the details I need to fill in, "add/edit note" is no good either.
Have you got an option on the drop down menu for add General Product Safety reg details?
How do I please add this information in bulk on my listings.
I would like to get ready and organised for this whilst my ebay shop is slow.
It is no help to the sellers ,if you are telling us to be ready and do not provide the tools to help.
I have over 1,000 listings and I do not want to do this one at a time.
Best wishes
kat@ebay
Hi @lincolnshiremarine ,
I'll have a look into the details for it as it was announced today. I will follow up offline and come back to you.
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoIs this new? I know eBay show competitor's listings on our listings, usually half way down or at the bottom. But today I'm seeing a banner for a competitor's shop right at the top of some of my listings, in several categories.
I'll be honest, this makes me want to close my shop and not use eBay ever again, for anything.
marco@ebay
Hi @darth_baggins, thanks for your question.
Yes, this is a new design. However, I am not quite sure whether this is still being tested with certain accounts, or if it is being implemented across all accounts.
I will take yours as an example, and pass this on for you, so your opinion/feedback can be taken into consideration.
Thank you,
Marco
darth_baggins
·1 year agoMore feedback for you. It's like if the owner of a market had two customers, both selling wool, and the owner puts a big banner on top of wool stall A's stall saying 'buy your wool here (Stall B) instead' because stall B paid the owner a bit more money.
I'm totally disgusted and very disillusioned. As a seller of more than 20 years on eBay I feel like it's a slap in the face and shows the utter contempt you have for sellers.
Please pass this feedback on.
marco@ebay
Thanks for your reply, @darth_baggins.
I can see where you are coming from, so I will be adding this to your report as well. Anything else, please let us know.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoThanks Marco.
Interestingly, since I posted this, the link to other shops is no longer showing on my listings.
I suspect it's one of those 'oops we pushed a button too early' moments that eBay are famous for.
marco@ebay
Thanks for letting me know, @darth_baggins.
I will add that to the feedback as well, just in case. The more information, the better.
Thank you,
Marco
